Clingman's Dome - 6643 feet
4/29/2002 3:30PM
After spending the night in Cleveland, TN I took back roads along the
Appalachian foothills towards the
Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This was definately worth doing instead of the interstate and I probably didn't lose any
time since it was a more direct route. There were lots of great winding roads
that were fun for my Integra to drive on. It was early enough in the season that
the park wasn't completely jammed with traffic. Near Clingman's Dome is Newfound
Gap, the border between Tennessee and North Carolina where the
Appalachian Trail
crosses the road. The Clingman summit tower was somewhat crowded but not too
bad.
